It was a lovely sunny winter day in Recife when we went for lunch by the beach.

As we waited for our meal to be prepared, we heard the sounds of berimbau coming from across the street. A couple of us approached and were met with the sight of a capoeira group performing.

I quickly grabbed my camera and started snapping shots of the action. At the time I didn’t notice the young atabaque drummer looking straight at me through the frame of fighting kicks. While developing the image weeks later, I suddenly felt company in the dark room as I could almost hear his thoughts: “I See You”
